Space the final frontier… We have been using our imaginations to take us into space!
We have made our own junk modelling rocket number line with numbers up to 10. We have also been making paper mache planets to help transform our classroom into space. The children built their own rocket out of used cardboard boxes, glued tin foil onto their rocket and decorated it before adding a crepe paper fire tail, which is now suspended floating in space.
We have been pretending to walk on the moon as well as talking about the night sky, moons, stars, planets, light and dark.
The children have also enjoyed dancing under our starry night sky to space themed music; moving as if they were in space, responding with movement to the songs and talking about what the music reminds them of and why.
We have been enjoying playing in our own restaurant. We made our own menus after talking about our favourite meals and what we would order if we went out to eat. The children enjoyed role playing as diners, as well as waiters, waitresses and chefs.
We have been buying and selling with real money in our own shop. We have been counting how many items we had in our baskets, talking about how much we think things are worth, what is healthy food to buy, as well as what our favourite foods are.
A warm welcome to the Imagination zone from Colin, Ismail, Falguni and Ana.
This Term we have been looking at caterpillars as they change into butterflies. A child said “this is the food of the caterpillar.”
Another child said “they’re wriggling, it’s just eating the food”
The children in the imagination zone made a fruit salad using all the fruits from the very hungry caterpillar story.
We will also be investigating tadpoles as they change into frogs.
